eConnect USA
Issue 1, Jan 2014

Welcome to the first edition of eConnect USA, the eNewsletter of the Alumni of the University of Otago in America, Inc. This initiative has been developed to keep alumni and friends of the University living in the US up-to-date and informed about Otago-related activities in this country. You may be surprised to find out just what is going on all across the US - local and national network events, visits from Otago academics engaged in interesting research, undergraduate Kiwi students on exchange at Otago partner universities - the list goes on. eConnect USA is your link to fellow Scarfies and friends of Otago interested in the progress of your alma mater back in Dunedin. Happy reading!

AUOA Appeal Update

Thanks to generous donations from alumni based in the United States, the AUOA is able to provide funding for scholarships and prizes at the University of Otago. The AUOA Undergraduate Scholarship is available as part of a suite of scholarships for students who would not be able to access University study without funding support. Claudia Dong, AUOA Scholar in 2012, writes about what the Scholarship meant for her as she tackled her first year of study at Otago.

AUOA Student Exchange Awards

The AUOA also funds Student Exchange Awards for undergraduates travelling to the US to study for up to a year at one of Otago's 14 partner universities in the States. This is an amazing experience for students who get a chance to live and study at some of the US's most prestigious universities. The reports we receive once the students return are full of enthusiasm and excitement after their taste of US life and culture. They are also very aware of and grateful for the assistance they receive from alumni through the travel award. Click here for a list of Otago's partners in the US. Read about students' experiences here.
